American Sign Language II
Time: 3:00pm - 9:00pm. Dates: Monday, June 10 - Friday, June 14, 2013 Location: Southeast GLRS, 4 North College Street, Claxton, GA. Registration: Registration fee is $100.00, This is the second course in the American Sign Language Series. All participants must have successfully completed ASL I and will need the Signing Naturally Book 1 used during ASL I. This course will offer professionals an orientation into socializing and working with deaf individuals. This course looks at the audiological vs. cultural perspective, historical content for Deafness/Deaf individuals as well as gives participants hands on practice in learning American Sign Language. Registration is $100. Cash or Checks are due at the first class. Checks should be made out to Southeast GLRS.

Materials Fee: $70.00 for purchase of Signing Naturally Volume I. Total Fees: $170.00 Location: Southeast GLRS, 4 North College Street, Claxton. Instructor: Bonnie Thompson. Course description: This is the first course in the American Sign Language Series. Are you interested in learning sign language? Have you ever met anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing? Are you interested in learning about deaf culture or in learning the American Sign Language alphabet? Is there a deaf child at your school whom you would like to communicate with? - This course will offer an orientation into socializing and working with deaf individuals. Cost: None This informal, Q&A meeting is designed to address the needs of parents and family members that have school-age students (K-12th grade) with autism spectrum disorders (autism, Asperger’s, PDD-NOS). Please come to discuss topics that are relevant to your child, including educational programming, techniques to modify behavior, language modalities, how to build social skills, etc. This session is open to any parent or family member at no cost, as an opportunity to discuss issues involving ASD. Space is limited. Child Care is not provided.

Participants will discuss and problem-solve student cases, analyze local area barriers to student progress, and will have the opportunity to share information and formulate the seeds for within-county systems change. Participants are free to present cases (confidentiality must be maintained, however) for the group to discuss and analyze. Limit five participants per system, District 14 only.
